The Leinster Championships takes place on Sunday, April 18th at Glandassan, Co.Wicklow. It is being organised by Setanta Orienteers, on a new map by Pat Healy. Entries are still being accepted due to the postal strike. Details are on the SETANTA web site.
The area is on the west of the road from Glendalough up to the Wicklow Gap. It is mostly rocky open mountainside, with some paths and old ruined mineworks lower down.

The Irish Championships is taking place on Kerry beaches over the May bank holiday weekend. This year it is a three-day event, with a Sprint-O championships on Saturday, the Classic distance Championships on Sunday, and the relays on the Monday. All 3 events are being held on sand dunes. The classic distance event is on Inch Strand, an area first used for the Irish 2-Day in 1987. The map that day had very little except contour features on it. I was manning the start at that event, and I remember looking around and seeing very perplexed orienteers standing on every nearby sandhill looking at their maps.

The Sprint event is being held at Banna strand, which has been used before, and the relays are at Maharees, a popular surfing beach, near CastleGregory. This is a new map.
A number of club members are travelling down to Kerry for the event and staying in rented houses near CastleGregory - included are members of the Jones, Young, Kearns, O'Rourke, and O'Neill families. Relay teams have been entered and we have high hopes of regaining at least one title.

The final Spring cup event takes place at Clarabeg, south of Laragh, on Sunday, 25th April. 3ROC will probably use SportIdent for this event again. Nigel Campbell-Crawford is also selling SportIdent cards ( dippers ) at a special price of 20 euro. There are plenty of prizes still to be decided in the league, especially for the juniors.

Our Spring Cup event in Mullaghmeen was very successful. There was a large turnout for such a remote area, thanks to a beautiful fine spring day. We also had a large turnout of club members helping out, which meant everyone apart from the Planner and Controller got a run on the day. Thanks to Tommy for Planning the event, and Dónal Ó Murchú of CNOC for controlling the event for us again. Thanks to Bernie, Alex, Frank, Ian, John, Ray, Jean, Kathryn, Fiach, and Alan for helping.
