The terrain is mostly runnable sandunes. The vegetation on the dunes nearer the sea is mostly maram grass. Further away from the sea there is more long grass, ferns, and some brambles making running a bit slower. There are some small tress and bushes in places. Midway down the area there is a large section of marine bushes similar to gorse. This is marked as green fight on the map. Compared to other sandune areas in Ireland, Cahore is most similar to Bull Island. However there are some larger dunes on Cahore.

Courses 1 to 7 will be printed on A3 at 1:7500 scale. Courses 8 to 11 will be printed on A3 at 1:5000 scale. Course 1 will have a map exchange. Courses 2, 3, and 4, will have an extra section with a few controls, at the southern end of the area that extends beyond the A3 printable area, printed beside the main area on the front of the map. There is no stated climb for courses as the complexity of the sandunes means it is very hard to measure on a reasonable route. It will not be a significant factor in the courses.
