MapRun6 is a mobile phone app available for Android and iPhones that allows you to do orienteering just using your phone. MapRunF is an earlier version but should work just as well. You install the App on your phone, and select a course. When you do the course the phone beeps and registers when you reach a control point. You can view the map and your current location and track on your phone, then upload your time when you complete a course. You can do the available courses at any time. There are no actual flags at the control points but the control points are defined features on the map.
For most of the courses below you can also download and print the map.
MapRun6/MapRunF Instructions:
At home. The following is best done at home.
It may take a little time to download the course. The screen then jumps back to main screen.
You can now head to the course location.
Go to somewhere near the course start. The start is the triangle on the map.
Open MapRun6 on your phone, make sure the course is selected. Hit the "Go to Start" button.
A red dot should appear showing where you are on the map.
The phone will beep once you are at the start location i.e. the triangle on the map.
You then follow the course in order i.e. control 1, 2, 3 ....... Finish. The phone will beep when you get to each control. The map is on both the phone and the print out, if you printed it. Don't forget to go to the finish. If you pass another control out of sequence the phone should beep but ignore the control till later.
Be careful not to run close to the Start/Finish point before registering the other points when using MapRun6.
Also be aware that the GPS on the phone may be affected by tree cover and may not beep when you are at the control site.
The app shows the orienteering map overlaid on Google aerial view.
Check the following on your phone.
